Cookies for Babies

The thing about me is that I LOVE to give (most bakers do) but especially to organizations that serve a great purpose. Each year the Infant Crisis Center in Oklahoma City hosts a fundraiser called “Bingo for Babies” that helps raise money for babies in need. I was happy to help sponsor the dessert table.

I first got involved with the Infant Crisis Center last year with my job at OG&E and the experience I had there was life changing. I went in as a volunteer to help pack diapers for those in need. While we were there, we took a tour of the building and got to see where their clients shop for clothing. Clients are allowed 4 visits a year to supply their babies between the ages of birth to 3 years old a week supply of diapers, formula for a week or pack of toddler food (depending on age), bottle or sippy cup and a pack of wipes. As I was touring I saw mom with a brand new baby picking up items for her baby, I don’t know what came over me as I can normally put away emotions while at work / around co-workers but I just broke out in tears. I wanted to give her all the help I could. As a mom to a toddler myself, I remember how hard it was having a newborn but I at least had a strong support system, a job, health insurance, food, and so much more than she did. Being a parent is one of the most challenging things I have ever encountered and it is still an every day battle. When you have to add worry and stress about feeding or clothing your child on top of every day parent struggles, it's just not fair to any mother or parent.

Ever since that visit I try to give this organization as much as I can. While I am not a millionaire myself (at least not yet..wink wink) I knew I could do something small like donate 100 diaper and bottle cookies for attendees to enjoy. I also enjoyed dressing up to this event (of course). I never get to be dressed up so I was out of my element! My husband was my plus one and we had a great time. The event raised over $250,000.00 that night too!
